Summer Learning and Looking Forward
Summer is going by fast. Life.. its seems like to this Mom.. is just flying by. Its hard to believe that in September I will be guiding a 6th, 4th and 2nd grader through another season of learning through life. I am looking forward to getting back to our treasured reading and learning time together but i have enjoyed watching and listening to the children as they learn so many things throughout our summer days.
Here are some of the things that the children have been doing this summer:
- playing, pretending, building, digging, singing, visiting, hiding, seeking, exploring, drawing, painting, creating, discussing, cleaning, working, running, cooking, organizing, laughing, (just to name a few:)
Life is filled with educational oportunities these days!
- Emailing friends leads to stronger typing and spelling.
- Exploring a friends countryside leads to rocks and bones which leads to wonder. “What did it come from mom?” “What kind of rock is it?” and “I wonder what it looks like in side”
- Track Practice leads to disipline in training, eating and sleeping.
- Art Camp leads to volunteer oportunities and a vast amount of Art and History.
- Listening to Dad read brings enjoyment, and so many other things i cant list here. Dad finished the Harry Potter series a few weeks ago and is almost finished with Prince Caspian.
Looking forward to the fall we are excited about:
- Coop (The boys will be in the Elementary coop. Cat will be in the Jr High coop and it looks like I will be teaching Art and Art History to both groups!) FUN
- All three kids start training for Cross Country in Track starting this coming Monday. We are all looking forward to trail runs this fall.
- Camping.
- Doing our bookwork outside at our new patio table.
- the Public Library being a lot less crowded
We will be using Easy Grammar, Apologia Botany for Science, explore a bit of Texas History and take a trip to San Antonio. All the while using a simple structure to our day that includes short spurts of book time and interest led learning.
Life is Grand! Life is Good.
