This morning and two articles :)

Published by ruthie at 9:09 am under our day

It was great to wake up this morning and have the kids gently get up and out of bed. This.. instead of waking them and having them rush to get ready for track .. which starts at 8am most weekdays. This morning its looking like rain.. so i have decided to keep the children in but have them go for a jog on the treadmill :) (to which Jo replied “YEAH!”.. he likes the treadmill :)

This morning the kids were in the living room visiting with each other for quite a while before breakfast. Jo and Nate spent time looking at rocks they Nate had collected at a friends house. It was fun to hear them talk about the rocks themselves, thier texture, thier color, how sharp they were, how many there were, where they were found. Its amazing what a pile of rocks will do for a childs curriosity. :)

I am looking forward to beginning book work next week :) The days of “get your math book out” are just around the corner and I am ready to get back into the swing of things. The thing I have missed the most is our Daily reading time :) I am looking forward to sharing our day again like we use to:)

I have been a big fan of Lapaz homeschool for quit a while. I sat down this morning to have a peek and found her blog had been mentioned in a newspaper article!  The Washington Times article was great! Heres a link if you are interested. This took me to another article that you may find interesting. Its about the Pioneers of homeschooling. Heres a short exerpt:

“Mr. Holt’s efforts to reform public education failed, and his effort to advance his ideas through private schools was met with meager success. He finally concluded that parents who wanted to have their children learn could simply teach the child at home. Mr. Holt summed up his philosophy this way: “I think that learning is not the result of teaching, but of curiosity in the activity of the learner.”

Raymond Moore’s emphasis was on early childhood development and he concluded through his extensive research and studies that children, especially boys, should not be in a formal classroom setting until as late as age 8, and in some cases, age 10. Prior to that time, they should interact at home with their parents. Mr. Moore believed that a child’s interests should be encouraged and fostered by the parent. This led naturally to home-schooling”

click here to read the rest of the article..  its not too long.. and its really good.

Co-op is just around the corner and the kids are excited to get back to the joys that Co-op brings. Friends, backpacks, lunch at school, and PE :) I think they might learn a few things too :) hehehe.

I cant believe I have a 2nd, 4th, and 6th grader this year! Time goes by so very fast!
