Our First Day Back!!!!!!
Today was our first day back to “school”. The kids and I were both ready!![]()
Heres how our day turned out:
Track from 8 to 9. (the boys ran a mile, plus 200’s, Cat ran 2 miles around campus in 17mins 37secs! a new PR for her!)
Back home for breakfast. Math and Handwriting began. It was fun to hear the discussions of “multiplication is easiest… NO.. Division is!!!! between Jo and Nate.
Joseph worked on his memory verses as we waited on Cat to finish up her bookwork. We then read aloud together our History (reviewed) about Kubla Kaun.
In Science we learned about Pterasaurs. It was great fun! Did you know that some people believe that Pterasaurs could still be alive? We had a great discussion and learned about fossils and the different types of Pterasaurs. Click here to see an interesting web site about some of the sightings.
Also on our “to do” for today was to get our chores lined out for the week. I have assigned the kids more resposiblities and we will be rotating our chores each week!
I also wanted to talk about bit about how we “school at home”.. I am a believer in instilling a “thirst for knowledge” in our children and the importance of them to always want to ask questions. I also feel it is very important to live in the moment.. so if we are in the middle of “book work” or as in todays case Science… and a child notices a hawk out our back door.. we immediately stop and watch it. It was a bit of a “wow” moment today… as i was reading a part in our text book about fossils and whether we could tell if a Pterasaur fossil was a animal that prefered to live with other birds OR if it perfered to be alone “like a hawk”… at that very moment Nate said “Alone.. JUST LIKE THAT ONE!” and pointed to a tree in neighbors yard! I immediately had the children go out and “bird watch” and we ended up seeing a total of 3 hawks! what a joy!
After our bird viewing .. had lunch and then i finished up our science.
I have no problem “dropping” things for a few minutes to explore or experience life around us!
What great memories!
So..
all in all our first day back to “school” was fun and educational!
blessings!
below.. a picture of a fossil Cat drew while I was reading and a shot of Cat and I as review some of her math problems.
