Super Day and the unplanned learning experience
Today did not end up like I had planned. I was counting on a ‘normal’ homeschooling day. With breakfast finished and book work starting at 9am. But today.. was just super
and filled with great learning experiences .. so much so .. i had to make a record of it!
First the kids woke up before 7am. They spent the next hour or so doing this:
It was so fun hearing them just visit and draw and .. of course hunt for just the right color marker
While they were drawing they started talking about a Blue Diamond. This led us on a search for a Blue Diamond, which led us to the Hope Diamond.
- I read them this: click here
- and this: click here
and we just watched this tonight (I am so excited to see the Smithsonian has a youtube channel! cant wait to check it out)
Next they built a tent in the boys room and spent an hour and 15 mins working on thier Bible Bowl together. (I have video of this but will have to post it at a later date:)
After this.. we had lunch. Cat watched part of her math dvd to review and worked a problem before we left to go shopping with Daddy.
Daddy had to go to the mall for work related purchases, and we had to buy new running shoes for Jo. So we tagged along and found some shoes and then headed to the Electronics store to wait for Dad. They had this amazing flat screen TV with surround sound playing Planet Earth. The first video was one we hadn’t seen in a very long time about plant life, the second one (which we watched half of) was about ocean life. It was great.
Before we left for the mall, my hubby asked if I had heard what day they were doing the Super Collider experiment. I found a few videos and web sites about CERN. We were discussing this while in the car with the kids. Which ended up being a question and answer session about matter and antimatter. (I had no idea what antimatter was.. just that they use it on Star Trek
So when I got home I found the following:
Animation of how the Super Collider works. click here
Informational Video about CERN click here
and here a Scientist talks about antimatter for kids.
The kids watched all these videos. I was able to discuss with them the Big Bang Theory and Creationism.
We were also excited to find in our mailbox our new editions of Gods World News! The kids instantly began reading and learning! Math and Chores followed, ending a Super Educational Day!

I came across your site tonight searching for Maples in the Mist. I can’t find a way to contact you through email so I’m commenting. Also, looks like you live in Texas, me too. Please email me, I’m trying to put together some copywork from Maples in the Mist. Thanks, Julie
That does sound like a super day!
